Unprotected Chair Shot Gashes Cody Rhodes During Major AEW Heel Turn

Cody Rhodes may have picked up another hard-fought victory in an All Elite Wrestling ring this Saturday night at Fyter Fest, but a shocking betrayal made sure the “American Nightmare” didn’t leave Daytona City unscathed.

Just moments after defeating AEW newcomer Darby Allin with a devastating version of the Cross Rhodes, Cody’s long-time friend and former WWE developmental tag team partner Shawn Spears (fka Tye Dillinger) appeared in the ring, steel chair in-hand.

In what has quickly turned into one of the more controversial moments in pro wrestling in quite some time, Spears blasted the AEW Executive Vice President with a completely unprotected chair shot to the head. Besides just looking (and probably feeling) absolutely sick, the attack actually caused a major gash in the back of Cody’s head, causing him to bleed considerably on the mat.

Furthering the new storyline, Brandi confronted Spears in the ring immediately after the assault, and he would ultimately back down after several individuals including MJF (Cody’s new “best friend” in Being the Elite lore), Dean Malenko, all of SoCal Uncensored and several referees rushed the ring to check on the seemingly unconscious Rhodes.
