Olympique Lyonnais manager Laurent Blanc has admitted in a press conference attended by RMC Sport that many players in the Lyon squad are unhappy regarding their dwindling game time. The winter transfer window is set to be an eventful one for the Rhône outfit: Lyon are competeing with Wolverhampton for the signing of promising Flamengo Brazilian midfielder João Gomes.
Les Gones are in a mediocre ninth-place in Ligue 1, with European qualification fading away. A staggering seventeen-point blanket separates third-placed Marseille to their bitter Olympique rivals, and many OL players seem unable to showcase the level they’ve been expected to display of late.
When asked whether there were unhappy players at Lyon, OL manager and French World Cup winner Laurent Blanc didn’t hold back. “Yes, there are unhappy players here even if our profession is marvellous. We can’t agree to all of their requests, but we can take them into consideration.” Lyon expect a clear-out with several players, such as Houssem Aouar, Moussa Dembélé, Romain Faivre, Jérôme Boateng, Karl Toko Ekambi, Romain Faivre or Damien Da Silva, already looking for a way out, shown the exit door or ready to see off the remaining six months of their contract. Laurent Blanc didn’t hide the fact Faivre, for whom OL splashed €18m just a year ago, wants to leave. “He’s not happy at Lyon, and it’s been dragging on for more than three months. I like the player. I’ve tried to kick-start him, but there are other players here. It’s tough.“
