WWE NXT preview, Jan. 9, 2019: Rivalries reignite in double main event
Before they set sail for either Raw or SmackDown LIVE, EC3 and Nikki Cross will compete in this week’s huge double main event, with The Top One Percent taking on Undisputed ERA’s Adam Cole and NXT’s Twisted Sister battling the undefeated Bianca Belair.
Will Adam Cole even the score with EC3?
Before he sets sail for WWE’s red or blue brand, EC3 has some unfinished business to take care of in NXT, namely settling his rivalry with Adam Cole and The Undisputed ERA.
The Top One Percent has been a thorn in the faction’s side since pinning Cole in a stunner in October, to which Undisputed ERA responded by injuring EC3’s leg in a controversial post-match beatdown. The hostility intensified upon EC3’s comeback, with The Top One Percent beating Bobby Fish (who had wielded a steel chair during the attack) last month. Undisputed ERA sought to launch another ambush after Fish’s defeat, but their attempt was thwarted by Heavy Machinery.
The Panama City Playboy seemingly has one Last Shot at payback before EC3 departs NXT. Who will get the last laugh this Wednesday on WWE Network?
A chaotic ending to Belair’s undefeated streak?
Since making her debut in 2016, few Superstars have etched a legacy in NXT quite like Nikki Cross. The Twisted Sister’s brand of chaos not only created tons of headaches for other Superstars, but it also endeared the quirky Cross to the NXT Universe over the years. Yet, with Cross’ time in NXT ending — she’s among the NXT Superstars headed to either Raw or SmackDown LIVE — there’s still one major hurdle for her to clear: the undefeated Bianca Belair.
The EST of NXT and Cross fought in two raucous battles in 2018, including one Match of the Year contender. Both matches ended inconclusively, with double count-out and no-contest decisions, meaning that although Belair’s undefeated streak remained intact, she has yet to vanquish the Scottish Superstar. Will that change when they meet for round three this week?
Johnny Gargano to speak out
There are still plenty of unanswered questions surrounding the relationship between NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano, but what’s not in doubt is The Blackheart’s vision for his former #DIY teammate.
After Ciampa and Gargano joined forces, if only briefly, to lay a beating on Aleister Black inside a steel cage last month, the NXT Champion volunteered the idea that Gargano again set his sights on winning a title — specifically, the NXT North American Championship currently held by Ricochet.

Barthel & Aichner’s “European Union” comes to NXT
Last week, Germany’s Marcel Barthel and Italy’s Fabian Aichner forged a victorious unit on NXT UK, defeating the high-flying pair of Kenny Williams & Amir Jordan. This week, the newly formed “European Union” will dish out punishment on the other side of the Atlantic as they compete in tag team action for the first time at Full Sail Live.
