Meryl Streep Had the Best Reaction to Finding Mariah Carey in Her Golden Globes Seat

Meryl Streep finally addressed the great seat-stealing saga that unfolded between herself and Mariah Carey at the Golden Globes on Sunday night. In an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Streep joked about her reaction to finding the elusive chanteuse in her seat—right next to Stephen Spielberg—as a commercial break came to a close.

“Bitch stole my seat!” Streep jokingly told host Jimmy Kimmel.

“Yeah I came over and there she was next to Spielberg sucking up. She said, ‘Oh my god they made me sit down!’ Because you know we’re moving they make you…Everyone has to drop to their seat,” the 68-year-old acting legend recalled.

“I was left out,” Streep continued. “I said, ‘No, no. Stay there. I’ll sit on your lap.’ Because you know… it looked comfy.”

Carey also detailed the encounter on Twitter. In her telling, Carey’s apology was met with graciousness by Streep, who told her, “You can take my seat any time!”
