Arsenal news: Unai Emery reveals he cannot make any permanent signings in January transfer window

Unai Emery has revealed that Arsenal cannot make any permanent signings in the January transfer window.

The Gunners’ boss did say the club would be able to make loan signings, but confirmed there is no money available for permanent additions.

Arsenal have been keen to add a defender and a winger to their ranks but if they are able to bring anyone in it would only be temporary.

Speaking in his press conference ahead of Arsenal’s match at West Ham on Saturday, Emery said: “We cannot sign permanently. We can only loan players. Only loan players.

“I can say to you that the club is working, the club is telling me the different situations in each moment. At the moment, we haven’t had any news today about that.”

Reports had suggested the Gunners were on the verge of bringing Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez to the Emirates.

The 24-year-old has struggled for game time at the Nou Camp this season, making only six appearances, and a switch to north London has been rumoured for some time.

The move was reportedly close with a £20million fee, but that appears to be wide of the mark and if he is to join Arsenal in January then it will be on loan.

Arsenal have also been linked with Yannick Carrasco of Dalian Yifang and Ever Banega from Emery’s former club Sevilla.

Asked specifically about a move for Suarez, Emery said: “I don’t know his situation now.

“We can only sign players later on. I know the club is working on possibilities of which players can help us with big performances like we need now.”

One player likely to leave Arsenal in the summer is Aaron Ramsey, who is set to become Juventus’ second highest earner behind Cristiano Ronaldo.
