Petr Cech will be remembered as a Chelsea legend and one of the greatest goalkeepers in Premier League history, according to talkSPORT host Micky Gray.
The 36-year-old announced on Tuesday that he will hang up his gloves at the end of the season.
Arsenal goalkeeper Cech says he will happily retire after ‘achieving everything’ during a 20-year career between the sticks.
The Czech Republic international won four Premier League titles, four FA Cups, three League Cups, and Champions League and Europa League crowns in 11 years at Stamford Bridge.
He left Chelsea to join London rivals Arsenal in 2015, adding another FA Cup to his personal haul, and he also holds the all-time record of Premier League clean sheets – 202.
Cech has seen his gametime severely reduced at Arsenal, though, following the arrival of Bernd Leno, and he has now decided to call time on his iconic career.
“It’s the end of the era,” said former Premier League defender Micky Gray on talkSPORT.
“You talk about when Peter Schmeichel was around and what he won at Manchester United – Petr Cech has to be in the same mould.
“He was absolutely phenomenal.
“It’s strange saying ‘Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech’ – we will always remember him as the Chelsea goalkeeper who was the best.
“He was the No.1 goalkeeper in the world at Chelsea, there’s no doubt about it.”
