Sammy Guevara returns on AEW Dynamite

After being suspended following inappropriate comments about Sasha Banks being brought to light, Sammy Guevara returned to AEW Dynamite Wednesday as a surprise to close the show.

As the Chris Jericho/Jake Hager vs. Luchasaurus/Jungle Boy main event broke down in its closing moments, Serpentico (a Dark regular) jumped on the ring apron and nailed Luchasaurus in the back with Jericho’s bat, leading to Jericho hitting the codebreaker for the pin.

He then joined the Inner Circle beatdown of all three Jurassic Express members, hitting a shooting star press and revealing himself afterward as Guevara. He had been seen at ringside as Serpentico, along with other wrestlers, the entire night.

Guevara was suspended indefinitely on June 22nd after a quote from a 2016 podcast appearance emerged on social media where he said he wanted to “rape” Banks after seeing her while doing a Performance Center tryout. The 26-year-old discussed the matter with Banks and apologized to her and on YouTube with Banks putting out her own statement about the situation.

At the time of the suspension, AEW said he had “agreed to undergo extensive sensitivity training and, upon completion, his future status with the company will be re-evaluated. During his suspension, his salary will be donated to the Women’s Center of Jacksonville.”
