Liverpool transfer news: Rafael Camacho departure ruled out following Nathaniel Clyne exit

Rafael Camacho leaving Liverpool in this transfer window is unlikely to happen after it was ruled out by Jurgen Klopp.

Klopp selected the 18-year-old to start Liverpool’s FA Cup third round clash at Wolves, and he played the full 90 minutes of the 2-1 defeat at right-back on Monday.

Camacho left Sporting Lisbon to join Liverpool’s academy after a successful trial in 2016 and impressed during the Reds’ pre-season tour of America. However, it had been reported that the Portuguese side want to take him back on loan until June 2020 – with his Liverpool contract expiring at the end of that month.

Previous reports suggest Sporting will have the option to buy Camacho throughout the loan deal for around £13.5million.

When asked if Camacho will leave this month, Klopp, speaking at his press conference said: “No, Rafa will not leave.”

The loan of Nathaniel Clyne to Bournemouth, as well as injuries to Dejan Lovren and Joe Gomez is believed to have played a part in the Liverpool manager’s decision.

Steven Gerrard, now in charge of Rangers, managed Camacho during his time in the club’s youth setup and his side have also been linked with a loan move for the teenage defender.
