Chelsea transfer latest: Morata AND Giroud to leave, Paredes deal agreed, David Luiz contract talks, Gonzalo Higuain update

Chelsea are still hoping to get more transfer deals over the line as we enter the third week of the January window.

The big-money arrival of Christian Pulisic remains the only signing Chelsea have completed this month, despite Maurizio Sarri’s desire to strengthen two positions in his squad.

The Italian wants to bring a new midfielder to Stamford Bridge to replace the departed Cesc Fabregas, while signing a striker continues to remain a priority with Chelsea struggling in the final third.

But what does the latest transfer gossip say concerning Chelsea? talkSPORT.com round up some of the biggest rumours below…

Morata AND Giroud to leave?

It has long been expected Alvaro Morata would depart Stamford Bridge this month, and talks continue between Chelsea and Atletico Madrid for the transfer of the striker.

However, Sarri may also be losing his other senior striker, Olivier Giroud, sometime throughout the January window.

According to RMC Sport, Barcelona are keeping tabs on the World Cup winner as Ernesto Valverde chases a new forward following the sale of Munir El Haddadi to Sevilla.

Chelsea’s willingness to let Morata leave this month comes with the Blues hoping to sign Gonzalo Higuain.

Higuain hands in formal transfer request

Speaking of Higuain, the Argentina forward has made a formal request to leave Milan amid the interest from Chelsea.

He is currently on loan at Milan from their Serie A rivals Juventus, but wants to cancel his season-loan deal to reunite with his former Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge.

The Daily Mail claim Chelsea will pay £16million to sign Higuain on loan for the remainder of the season with an obligation to buy him outright for £32million in the summer.

Chelsea ‘agree deal’ with Fabregas replacement

The Blues are reported to have made an opening offer for Leandro Paredes, the Argentina midfielder, on Monday, and it is now claimed a contract has already been agreed with the 24-year-old.

The Sun report that terms have been agreed on a four-year deal worth £4million a year, though the Blues’ bid has not been accepted by Zenit Saint Petersburg, Paredes’ current club.

Sarri wants to sign Paredes as a replacement for Cesc Fabregas, who left Chelsea for Monaco last week leaving no senior cover for Jorginho in the Blues’ midfield.

David Luiz contract talks

Chelsea have opened talks with defender David Luiz over extending his contract with the club.

Luiz, 31, is out of contract at the end of the season and there were previous suggestions a deal was unlikely to be agreed due to Chelsea’s contract policy regarding players over the age of 30.

However, the central defender’s agent, Kia Joorabchian, has told The Sun: “Contrary to some reports we are in a very amicable situation with Chelsea.

“We are trying to work out a deal for David Luiz because he wants to stay, the manager wants him to stay and so does the club. I’m sure something will be worked out.”

Eden Hazard asking price set

Chelsea will demand £100million from Real Madrid for Eden Hazard should the Belgium international decide he wants to join the LaLiga giants.

According to The Telegraph, Chelsea are expecting to receive an offer from Los Blancos if Hazard makes it clear he wants the move, but they will accept nothing less than their asking price.

Real are long-term admirers of the 28-year-old forward and he has previously hinted at a desire to move to the Bernabeu sometime throughout his career.
