Chelsea news: Blues hierarchy open talks with David Luiz over an extended deal at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea have opened talks with defender David Luiz over a new deal at Stamford Bridge, according to reports.

The Brazilian, 31, has enjoyed an impressive season under new Blues boss Maurizio Sarri, recording 10 clean sheets in 22 matches so far.

This is a stark contrast to last season where he fell out of favour with Antonio Conte and only featured ten times throughout their league campaign.

There had been reports that Luiz would not remain in west London due to Chelsea’s “over-30’s rule” – where they only offer one year extensions to players 30 or older.

But Luiz’s agent has confirmed that he and the club are working together to finalise a new deal.

Speaking to The Sun, his agent Kia Joorabchian said: “Contrary to some reports we are in a very amicable situation with Chelsea.

“We are trying to work out a deal for David Luiz because he wants to stay, the manager wants him to stay and so does the club. I’m sure something will be worked out.”
