In a major breakthrough in the treatment of cancer, a retired professor from Madras University has been granted a patent to extract anti-cancer compounds from wild mushrooms.
Venkatesan Kaviyarasan, a retired professor at the University of Madras and J Manjunathan, a student doing Ph.D. under him had identified the wild mushroom years ago and had filed for a patent to extract the antiproliferative compounds in 2012.
