Even as the rains abated on Sunday but picked up slightly on Monday again, the death toll has risen to over 170 within a span of five days. On Sunday alone, more than 33 deaths were reported with almost half from the state of Kerala.
The situation remained grim in Karnataka, Maharashtra and Gujarat where 97 people have lost their lives so far due to the monsoon fury.
