Newsome earns nod for Jaguares clash

Alex Newsome will make his first start for the Waratahs on Sunday morning, replacing Andrew Kellaway on the right wing for the clash with the Jaguares.

Newsome has impressed in bench cameos through the first two Tahs games and he now gets his chance to shine for longer, usurping Kellaway.

Newsome’s inclusion is the only change coach Daryl Gibson has made to the starting XV but there is more movement on the bench, with Tolu Latu set to make his first appearance of the season in front of Hugh Roach and Nick Duffy taking the place of injured halfback Mitch Short.

Kurtley Beale has also overcome a rib complaint to start at inside centre.“We have selected a team that is competitive in all areas, particularly in the forwards where we are continuing to improve,” Gibson said.

“This weekend’s game is about continuing the momentum that we have built up over the last two games and finishing a challenging couple of weeks on a positive note.”

The Waratahs face the Jaguares in Buenos Aires on Sunday morning, kicking off at 8:40am AEDT, broadcast LIVE on FOX SPORTS.
