Callum Wilson: Bournemouth loan manager Carl Fletcher expects Chelsea target to STAY at club

Bournemouth loan manager Carl Fletcher is not expecting star man Callum Wilson to leave the Vitality Stadium this month.

Chelsea have been heavily linked with a swoop for the Cherries striker, who has scored 11 goals in all competitions for club and country so far this season.

Reports have also surfaced that West Ham may make a move for the attacker if the Hammers let wantaway striker Marko Arnautovic leave for China in this transfer window.

However, Fletcher, who took up his new role at Bournemouth in November having previously been the club’s Under-23 manager, believes the 26-year-old will stay on the south coast.

Speaking on the Jim White Show, he said: “Callum’s done fantastically well to come back from some serious injuries and score goals on a consistent basis in the Premier League.

“He’s played for England and done really well too.

“He’s worked ever so hard to get to this point and deserves all the recognition he has got.

“But the club and the team are trying to improve, and they can’t do that if you’re selling your best players.

“So with that in mind we obviously want Callum to stay.”

He continued: “I think it’s fantastic that the players we’ve got are attracting interest from other clubs.

“For us he’s an integral part of the club and what we’re trying to do here.

“You can never say never in football, but for me he’s a massive part of this Bournemouth team and I believe he’ll stay here.”

Cherries boss Eddie Howe also says the club should not be entertaining offers for their star striker.

Howe said: “In my opinion, and it’s just my opinion, I wouldn’t sell at any price – but I’m the manager, trying to create the best team that I can.

“We desperately want to take the team forward and to do that we have got to keep our best players.”

Howe’s men entertain in-form West Ham on Saturday in the Premier League.
