Callum Hudson-Odoi: Chelsea want buy-back option in any potential Bayern Munich transfer

A deal to take Callum Hudson-Odoi from Chelsea to Bayern Munich is being held up due the a disagreement about a buy-back clause.

The Premier League side want one added to the 18-year-old’s contract, which would stipulate they could re-sign the teenager for an agreed fee.

However, according to The Times, Bayern are reluctant to agree to it.

The German champions have been open in their interest in the 18-year-old, which has not gone down well at Stamford Bridge. Manager Maurizio Sarri has called the pursuit unprofessional.

Chelsea are believed to have rejected a number of offers from Bayern, with the latest being around £35m.

Marcos Alonso is one team-mate who has urged Hudson-Odoi to stay, but Bayern legend and former Chelsea star Arjen Robben has encouraged him to take a chance in Germany.

“He is one of the best [young players] in Europe. You are better off getting your chance and if you get that chance then you have to take it.

“For young players, it’s always the same. First, you have to take the big step to achieve it. Become a professional football player at the highest level, get into the first team, get your place.

“Then, second, which can be more important, what’s sometimes missing is that you have to stay there. Staying there is often more difficult than actually becoming a footballer in the first place.

“You have to to prove it, game after game, season after season and don’t be happy.

“Don’t just be happy when you achieve something little or small.”

One player who could be arriving at Chelsea, though, is Gonzalo Higuain, who is understood to be the priority signing in the January transfer window. Any deal would only last until the summer.
