Dietmar Hamann has blasted Frank Lampard’s criticism of Leeds over the recent ‘Spygate’ scandal, suggesting the Derby County boss has ‘lost the plot’.

An almighty storm kicked off last Friday when it emerged a Leeds United employee was caught spying on Derby’s training sessions in the build-up to their Championship clash at Elland Road.

Whites boss Marcelo Bielsa accepted full responsibility for the incident, claiming he instructed the employee to go to their opponents’ training ground.

Leeds ended up winning the game 2-0 and Lampard took the opportunity to voice his outrage at the events leading up to the game – describing Bielsa’s conduct as ‘unethical’.

Bielsa then went onto give an hour-long presentation where he also admitted to spying on all of Leeds’ opponents this season.

But Hamann believes the criticism Bielsa has received is unjust and says Lampard has ‘lost the plot’ with his condemnation of Leeds.

Hamann said: “The whole thing’s ludicrous and Frank Lampard – who I have the utmost respect for – has lost the plot with his condemnation of Leeds.

“I remember when (Werder) Bremen flew a drone over a Hoffenheim training session.

“At Melwood, when I was with Liverpool,  there used to be any number of kids standing on bins behind a wall watching us train.

“How precious do football clubs think they are? Let’s get some perspective, please.”
