The shocking stat behind Burnley’s 2-1 win over Fulham

It’s safe to say Claudio Ranieri may not want to watch back his Fulham side’s 2-1 defeat to Burnley on Match of the Day.

Just by looking at the scoresheet you know the Cottagers were unlucky but when you dig down into the statistics their defeat defies belief.

Having taken the lead with a stunning effort from Andre Schurrle just two minutes into the game it looked like Fulham would be on their way to three points.

Lady luck, however, had other ideas.

First, after 20 minutes, left-back Joe Bryan turned the ball into his own net after Jeff Hendrick thundered the ball into the six-yard box from wide on the right.

Then, just three minutes later, Hendrick again – this time on the left of the six-yard box – saw his clipped cross hit the Denis Odoi and beat Sergio Rico between the sticks.

And while Burnley had 11 attempts on goal during the win – NONE of them were on target.

Five were blocked by Ranieri’s men and one hit the post but the sum total of zero were on target.

When your luck isn’t in, it just isn’t in.
