Premiership: Saracens sign Francois Hougaard while Luke Cowan-Dickie reportedly set to join Montpellier

Saracens have confirmed the signing of South Africa international Francois Hougaard, who will join the club on a short-term contract.

The 34-year-old, who holds significant experience after shining for the Springboks, Bulls and Worcester Warriors in his career, is a versatile option.

Hougaard can cover the wing and several other backline positions and is set to be a crowd favourite at StoneX Stadium as he begins his stint there.

Signs three-month contract

The Springbok has signed a three-month contract and joins Saracens after being made available following the suspension and relegation of Wasps.

Hougaard played over 100 Premiership games for his former sides and also turned out 44 times for South Africa when he was in favour with them.

The former Bulls star has revealed he’s thrilled to be joining Premiership giants Saracens and can’t wait to get started as he looks to make an impact.

“I am really excited about the opportunity to join Saracens,” he said.

“They are a great club with many fantastic players and I look forward to helping them build on their success over the years.”

Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall added he’s pleased to welcome the South African to the club and is looking forward to working with him.

“Francois is a player with great experience and we are excited to see the impact he can make with us over the coming months,” he said.

Luke Cowan-Dickie on the move?

Elsewhere, there is a report in The Times that England hooker Luke Cowan-Dickie is poised to leave Exeter Chiefs for a big money deal with Montpellier.

According to the newspaper, the 29-year-old international forward has inked a contract worth over £300k per year with the reigning Top 14 champions.

If Cowan-Dickie were to join the French outfit from the 2023/24 season, the hooker would be ruled out of England contention ahead of that campaign.
