Chelsea transfer news: Milan striker Gonzalo Higuain the priority signing in January window

Chelsea’s priority in the January transfer window is making sure Gonzalo Higuain is a Blue.

The Premier League side are in need of a prolific striker and the Argentina international is the man to do that, with a deal to take him to Stamford Bridge on loan being worked on, report The Sun.

Higuain is currently on loan at Milan from Juventus, but worked with Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri at Napoli, whom he joined from Real Madrid in 2013, during the 2015/16 season.

In their one campaign together the striker top scored with 36 Serie A goals, making him the first player to score since Milan’s Gunnar Nordahl, who scored 35 in the 1949/50 season.

He left to join Juventus in 2016 for £75m, but was shipped to Milan when Cristiano Ronaldo joined Juve.

Chelsea have suffered this season from a lack of firepower up front and Sarri has opted to use Eden Hazard in the centre forward role even though he has recognised strikers in Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud at his disposal.

However, Morata has scored five Premier League goals so far and has been linked with a transfer back to Spain, while World Cup winner Giroud has scored once in the league.

Meanwhile, Michy Batshuayi is believed to be on his way out and is interesting Monaco, among other clubs, with the French side having already signed Cesc Fabregas this month.

Chelsea are currently fourth, four points from Tottenham.
