Official | Lyon sign 17-year-old defender Oumar Solet from Laval

Lyon have competed the temporary signing of 17-year-old Laval defender Oumar Solet, with an option to buy at the end of the current transfer.

Solet, who turns 18 in a couple of days, joins Lyon until the end of the season and could cost Les Gones just under €5m at the end of the deal. In this market, that is a bargain for such a young and talented defender, who has played 12 times for Laval and has emerged as one of the top young central defenders in France’s youth system.

As the official Lyon website says, “the arrival of Oumar Solet reinforces the strategy of Olympique Lyonnais to trust the best young French talent to compliment the extraordinary work of coaches and the leaders of the Academy of the club,” which, to me, sounds like they are quite excited about developing Solet and grooming him to become a top centre back in the future for the club.
