As reported by RMC and The Times, and detailed by a letter written by PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, the European Clubs Association (ECA) is close to finalising a huge Champions League financing agreement which should end any prevailing thought of a “Super League”. For now, at least.
The agreement, which covers marketing and broadcast rights, would inject €5bn per year over three seasons into the European game and is a move described as a “tectonic shift” for clubs by Al-Khelaïfi who also inherited the chair of the ECA following the Super League debacle last year.
Earlier this week, UEFA President, Aleksander Čeferin, discussed his plans for a Champions League ‘final four’, explaining he has various club presidents’ support, including Al-Khelaïfi’s.
