Philippe Clement: “It’s up to us to fill the stadium.”

Speaking in Friday’s pre-match press conference before Sunday’s match against Angers, AS Monaco manager Philippe Clement broached the topic of the atmosphere at the Stade Louis II.

Monaco have the lowest average attendance in Ligue 1 this season (5,712). Despite this, Clement confessed that he was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere in the stadium when he arrived in January. “The atmosphere is more heated than I thought before I came here,” said the former Club Brugge coach.

Not levelling any blame at the supporters, he believes it is up to himself and his players to attract them to the Stade Louis II. “I hope that we can manage to fill the stadium in the future. It is up to us to do it, to play a style of football that pleases our fans. If we have good results and an attacking style, more will come.”

Monaco’s home ground has been a fortress for a large part of the season, losing only one match in their last 19 in all competitions at the Principality stadium.
