L’Équipe report that Paris Saint-Germain have been the subject of an “information request” on the part of UEFA’s Financial Fair Play team, as La Liga president Javier Tebas has also filed a complaint with European football’s governing body over the contract renewal of Kylian Mbappé.
Having monitored the club in the last few weeks, UEFA’s Club Financial Control Body sent the request following their findings. PSG notably made a loss of €224.3m at the end of the 2020/21 season.
Contacted by L’Équipe, the club have indicated that this is a regular procecure and that no proceedings against the club have been initiated by UEFA as of yet.
The club had been made to sign an agreement with the CFCB in 2014 which included sanctions of up to €60m, €40m of which being a suspended fine. The value of their sponsorship contracts had also been the subject of proceedings in 2018, before the Court of Arbitration for Sport eventually dismissed the case over the length of time taken.
La Liga had indicated yesterday that they would be taking legal action against PSG over what they see as breaches of FFP, and would be acquiring the services of French and Swiss lawyers in order to take the case to the French and European authorities.
It also indicated that it would be weighing up looking at “potential conflicts of interest” over Nasser Al-Khelaifi’s role as both PSG president, head of beIN Sports, director of the ECA and member of UEFA’s executive committee. The Spaniards had already filed a complaint in 2017 over the signings of Kylian Mbappé and Neymar.
Real Madrid’s legal representation in France has indicated that the fact the club have chosen to attack PSG on French soil is what makes this time different, as he intends to kick off proceedings with the French ministry of sports.
