In an official communiqué from FC Lorient, the club has officially announced the departure of manager Christophe Pélissier, after his position was in doubt over the last two weeks. Club president Loïc Féry informed Pélissier of his decision to sack the manager last week, as a financial agreement of €3-4m was found between both parties to terminate the 56-year-old’s contract that had two years remaining. Lorient have promoted academy director Régis Le Bris to the senior team as his replacement.
Pélissier has been Lorient’s coach since 2019, aiding the club in promotion to Ligue 1 – and keeping the Breton side in Ligue 1 for two years. However, after finishing last season 16th with 36 points with performances and results that were below the boards expectations – Lorient have decided to sack the former Amiens boss.
Loïc Féry said in the statement : “Christophe Pelissier’s work has enabled FC Lorient to return to Ligue 1, and then to stay there for two seasons in a row: he and his staff have therefore marked the history of our club and I am very grateful to him. He is a hard worker who knows how to lead people without ever giving up. I would like to thank Christophe Pelissier most sincerely for his total involvement during these three seasons, during which we have faced the trials together, and in the end always achieved our objectives. The club is now turning a new page: having said that, our common adventure ends as it began, in exchange and mutual respect”
The now former Lorient boss also made a comment: “I am proud to have allowed FC Lorient to be promoted to Ligue 1 and to have succeeded in keeping them there. The place of this club is in this championship. I would like to thank all the players, my staff and the management of the club for these three years which correspond to a long cycle of work in the professional world today. I will obviously follow the results of the Merlus and I wish FC Lorient good luck for the continuation of its history.”
On Monday FC Lorient will announce their new manager in a press conference at 11h00.
