For the first time since March 2020, WWE held a live event and for the first time since January 2019, John Cena was on the show.
The pop culture star teamed with Rey and Dominik Mysterio in six-man tag team action, defeating The Bloodline (Universal Champion Roman Reigns and SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos) at Pittsburgh, PA’s PPG Arena Saturday.
The same pairing was also the post-show dark match for Friday’s SmackDown which marked Cena’s first match back in a non-cinematic way since a four-way Universal title no. 1 contender’s match on Raw in January 2019.
The last live event Cena worked on was a day earlier than that Raw as he defeated Baron Corbin in a no DQ match in Huntsville, Alabama.
He is set to return to action again Sunday in Louisville, Kentucky, as the Summer of Cena tour kicks off in earnest.
