Adam Cole’s contract with WWE is reportedly set to expire this month.
Wrestling Inc. originally reported that Cole’s contract was set to expire after SummerSlam weekend. Fightful Select further reported that Cole’s contract was actually up back in early July, but Cole extended the contract and told WWE that he was willing to work through SummerSlam weekend, then evaluate things after that.
It was said in the Fightful report that Cole’s contract being up last month was a surprise to many at the top of the company, as they only realized the deal was up shortly before the expiration date.
Cole made his debut for WWE in August of 2017, attacking then-NXT Champion Drew McIntyre. Together with Bobby Fish, Kyle O’Reilly, and Roderick Strong, he formed the Undisputed Era, a stable that would continue for several years, with Cole winning the NXT Championship once during the stable’s run. The stable officially ended in February of this year after Cole turned on Kyle O’Reilly, and the two have been feuding ever since.
Cole is also the longest-reigning NXT Champion, holding it for 396 days between June 2019 and July 2020.
