– With the increasing popularity of 3D feature films and 3D televisions becoming more accessible to consumers, WWE has been working on producing its own 3D content. According to a reliable source, WWE is negotiating with Fathom Events to air this year’s WrestleMania 27 pay-per-view in 3D in movie theaters across the United States.
While the idea of WrestleMania 3D sounds pretty amazing, fans should not get their hopes up just yet – as the two parties reportedly are unable to come to terms on [surprise] money.
WWE currently receives approximately 42% of PPV revenue from cable providers and almost 50% of PPV revenue from satellite companies. WWE is looking for 60-70% of revenues from a 3D theater presentation of WrestleMania, but Fathom isn’t willing to give that much away.
The negotiations have reportedly stalled and with WrestleMania coming up in just 3 months, the window opportunity for both sides to reach an agreement is closing.
