Dragons host Mustangs in first NSIC home dual

MOORHEAD, Minn.—The Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team is set to host a dual this weekend against Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference opponent Southwest Minnesota State. The dual begins at Nemzek Fieldhouse on Saturday at 3 p.m.

The dual against SMSU is the start of a four-match homestand for the Dragons. MSUM won’t be on the road until Jan. 26 for a dual against Upper Iowa.

The Dragons are coming off a 28-13 non-conference loss to Wisconsin-Parkside last Saturday. MSUM won three matches and was able to get bonus points from senior Zach Scott at 149 and sophomore Evan Foster at 174 in the loss.

Scott now sits at 13-9 this season following his win at Wisconsin-Parkside.

Foster beat Wisconsin-Parkside’s Tanner Anthony at 174 by major decision. Foster improved to 14-8 on the year.

Junior Jordan Magnusson beat Nate Lloyd 2-1 at 285 for the Dragons. Magnusson sits at 4-3 overall this season.

Sophomore Mason Schulz is 15-9 overall this season at 141. Schulz fell to Pernevlon Sheppard by a 10-4 decision last weekend.

Kris Nelson is in his 11th season as the MSUM head coach.

The Mustangs are currently 0-3 overall this season, with two of their losses coming against NSIC opponents St. Cloud State and Upper Iowa. SMSU lost to St. Cloud 42-0 on Nov. 20, and lost to Upper Iowa 28-6 on Dec. 12. Robert Shields is 14-8 to lead SMSU while Jackson Ryan is 11-5.
