A BBC research released on Monday revealed that nationalism was the main reason behind spread of fake news stories that contained nation-building messages. The idea of nation building was overshadowing the truth which ultimately led to false news.
Social media platforms like Facebook, Whatsapp and Twitter have often come under the scanner for not doing enough to curb fake news. 2018 could be described as the year of mob lynchings. People all over India were lynched on no grounds at all but on a series of messages that went viral.
