From the very beginning, the notes have been in news for wrong reasons. The first report came to light just a couple of weeks into the release of the notes, the RBI had to acknowledge that two versions of the new Rs 500 notes, including one with printing defects, were in circulation.
It was blamed on the acute shortage of the notes available.
