Train 18, also touted as the successor to Shatabdi trains, is set to hit tracks soon. Driven by a self-propulsion module sans a separate locomotive, the train, capable of running at a speed of up to 160 kmph, comes with technical features for enhanced quick acceleration.
The Train 18 is India’s first engine-less semi-high speed train. The swanky 16-coach train will cut journey time by 15 per cent compared to the 30-year old Shatabdi.
The swanky train has been developed by the Integral Coach Factory in 18 months.
