LFW: Giles

Giles Deacon is arguably the hottest anticipated show of London Fashion Week. A one-stop shop for any movie star after a gown to give them edge on the red carpet, Giles Deacon’s show has become the place to spot supermodels like Stella Tennant and the work of close collaborator and super-stylist, Katie Grand. For his AW08 collection Giles stated: “I was inspired by a Roger Corman film, Masque of the Red Death, which is a dark, gothic femme fatale sort of film where there’s these really decadent people living in this castle while outside there’s lots of people dying.”

Like a French couturier, a Giles Deacon show has many facets. Cue the architectural folds and fins on an opening procession of padded satin sportswear, creating dimensional volume around the body. Add distressed punky knits in sheened viscose yarns, crisp circular satin skirts bristling with undulating zippered godets, or the sleek columnar faux-nude leather dress with sashaying fringes.

The result is loved by the likes of Thandie Newton, a keen ambassador and Kate Moss, and stocked at Barneys, Selfridges and Harvey Nichols.

As well as his own line, Deacon works on collections for luxury brand Daks and high street store New Look.
