Yannick Bolasie exercises option to terminate Aston Villa loan and return to Everton

Yannick Bolasie has chosen to terminate his loan deal with Aston Villa.

The 29-year-old joined Villa on a season-long loan from Everton but has struggled for game time with the Championship club following Dean Smith’s arrival as manager.

Bolasie was signed in the summer by former manager Steve Bruce and the club reportedly agreed to pay all of his £70,000 a week wages. The winger has made 21 league appearances, 12 from the bench, and has scored just two goals.

Everton released a short statement on Twitter on Monday afternoon saying that the player had “exercised an option” in his loan agreement.

Everton splashed out £25million for him from Crystal Palace in the summer of 2016, but he ruptured a cruciate ligament against Manchester United in December, forcing him to miss a year of football.

It is likely he will be shipped out to another club for the second half of the season.
