Tottenham transfer report: West Ham striker Andy Carroll linked with shock move to solve Spurs injury crisis

Tottenham are considering a shock move to sign Andy Carroll as an emergency striker, according to reports.

It is claimed Spurs want the West Ham frontman to help their attacking injury crisis, with Harry Kane sidelined and Heung-min Son away at the Asian Cup.

Tottenham are without top striker Kane until March after he suffered ankle ligament damage in the 1-0 defeat to Manchester United last weekend, and Son may not be back until February if South Korea reach the Asian Cup final

And, according to The Sun, Carroll is one of the names on their list as they look for a short-term solution to their injury problem – which got even worse on Sunday as Dele Alli limped off against Fulham.

Carroll, 30, is a free agent in the summer and could be signed for only £2million this month, with an 18-month deal possibly on the table.

It is said the deal could depend on West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini and whether he believes he needs the 6ft 4in striker as cover for unsettled Marko Arnautovic.

Fernando Llorente started his first Premier League game of the season on Sunday in Tottenham’s dramatic 2-1 win over Fulham, but his audition for the role as Kane’s understudy did not go to plan.

The Spaniard scored an own goal and missed a sitter, with Harry Winks nodding in the injury-time winner for Spurs.

Tottenham are actively looking for striker back-up, with Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson an other, more long-term option, although his £40m price tag may prove a stumbling block.

Carroll, who also missed a sitter in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Bournemouth, cost West Ham £15m from Liverpool six-and-a-half years ago.

But injuries have limited him to just 93 starts for the Hammers and saw a surprise move to Chelsea collapse last year.
