Paul Scholes and Rio Ferdinand agreed that Manchester United were “terrible” in their 1-0 victory over Young Boys on Tuesday night.
The win gave United qualification from Group H, which means a place in the knockout stages of the Champions League.
The match looked like it was heading for a draw before Marouane Fellaini’s injury-time winner sparked wild celebrations from Jose Mourinho.
However, despite the positive result, the two Red Devils legends were far from happy with United’s performance.
“I thought they were awful tonight,” Scholes said on BT Sport.
“I thought they were terrible, second half especially.
“I think if they play against a half decent team there, they get beat tonight.
“They huffed and puffed and the quality was really lacking in every area of the pitch.
“I feel really sorry for Young Boys, I thought they were excellent second half and if they had a little bit of quality about them, they win that game.”
Ferdinand, who was in the BT studio with Scholes, agreed that United were far from their best against Young Boys.
Ferdinand said: “The finishing was woeful at times, the decision making terrible and there was no fluidity in the way they played.
“It’s not a performance you would expect from the quality players on show today. But they got it done.”
