Marcos Alonso: Replacements for Chelsea left-back if club sell him in January, including Juventus, Everton and Lyon stars

Chelsea fans have become increasingly frustrated with the performances of left-back Marcos Alonso in recent weeks.

Even Eden Hazard appeared to show his frustration with the full-back during the Carabao Cup semi-final with Tottenham Hotspur.

Alonso also has the worst cross accuracy (9.9 per cent) in Europe’s top five leagues of players who have attempted 50 or more crosses.

Supporters have been calling for him to be dropped from the starting 11 and some will be worried considering London rivals Arsenal are the next club to visit.

Fantasy Premier League fans have been sticking by him, though, with the 28-year-old in 39 per cent of teams, despite no goals in 20 weeks and no assists in 11.

He signed an extension to his contract in October that runs until 2023, so he is likely to cost a lot of money, but if the Blues do decide to cash in, talkSPORT.com looks at players who could replace him.

Alex Sandro – Juventus

Sandro has been heavily linked with a move to the Blues for the best part of 18 months after impressing in Italy.

Chelsea reportedly tried to sign the 27-year-old last summer but did not want to meet Juventus’ £60million price tag.

He is very accomplished with the ball at his feet and could provide that quality link up play Eden Hazard wants.

Sandro signed a new long-term contract with the Serie A giants, which runs until 2023, so that £60million could significantly increase.

Lucas Digne – Everton

The former PSG and Barcelona man has adapted to life in the Premier League well since joining Everton in the summer.

The Toffees paid £18million and signed him on a five-year contract.

The 25-year-old has won two league titles in France and the La Liga title and he has been a standout performer for Everton this season.

Ferland Mendy – Lyon

Mendy’s rise from Ligue 2 with Le Harve to being a highly sought after defender has been rapid.

He signed for Lyon for just €5million in 2017 and went on to be named in the Ligue 1 team of the year last season.

The 23-year-old’s performances also caught the eye of the national squad and he earned his first cap when Benjamin Mendy was forced to withdraw through injury.

He is quick and powerful and has been compared to his Manchester City namesake because of his style of play.

Nicolas Tagliafico – Ajax

The full-back only joined the Dutch club last year but his performances have already seen him linked with top clubs around Europe.

Tagliafico is a talented defender who is comfortable in possession and is also a danger going forward.

The 26-year-old has not played in one of Europe’s top leagues but has plenty of talent to be given a chance.

Arsenal have already been linked with a move for him during the January transfer window.

Marcel Halstenberg – RB Leipzig

Halstenberg has become one of the top left-backs in the Bundesliga over the last couple of seasons and continues to impress for his club RB Leipzig.

The 27-year-old is currently the highest rated left-back in the Bundesliga on WhoScored.com – with a better average in the 2018-19 season than David Alaba.

He made his Germany debut in 2017 against England but missed last year’s World Cup through injury.
