RB Leipzig are set to offer sporting director Paul Mitchell a new long-term contract to ward off interest from Premier League giants Manchester United.
United are revamping their football department ahead of the 2019/2020 campaign, and as a result will be appointing their first-ever director of football.
The club are intent on providing a long-term strategy in the transfer market, which works in tandem with a new manager.
United have been tracking Mitchell ever since former Southampton chief Nicola Cortese alerted Woodward to his excellent work at St Mary’s.
Mitchell was responsible for the signings of Toby Alderwiereld, Sadio Mane, Nathaniel Clyne and Dejan Lovren during his time on the south coast.
The new management team will have money to spend in the summer in order to bridge the gap with the Premier League’s elite in Liverpool and Manchester City.
