Manchester United news: Fred spends week training alone to prove his fitness to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Manchester United midfielder Fred has been training alone this week in a bid to prove his fitness for his side’s crunch trip to Tottenham on Sunday.

The Brazilian did not travel with the rest of the United squad for their warm-weather training camp in Dubai and instead stayed in Manchester in order to be with his wife, who is due to give birth to their first child in the coming days.

The Sun report the Brazilian has continued to work to impress interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with his work ethic and desire.

Fred, 25, has spent several hours at the club’s Carrington training ground this week to focus on his conditioning.

The £52m man found first-team opportunities hard to come by under previous boss Jose Mourinho, but has been given a new lease of life under Solskjaer.

Fred, described as a ‘luxury’ in midfield by Mourinho, has started two of Solskjaer’s five games in charge to date.

Since arriving from Shakhtar Donetsk over the summer he has mustered just one goal from 15 appearances, but will be hoping to add to that tally in the near future.

Elsewhere, Marcos Rojo also missed the trip to the Middle East owing to his ongoing fitness problems which have forced him to return to Argentina.

The Red Devils squad returned home from the United Arab Emirates on Thursday night, as preparations turn to their trip to Wembley to face Mauricio Pochettino’s men on Sunday.
