Manchester United news: David de Gea WANTS to stay at Old Trafford, but requires £300,000-a-week new contract

David de Gea wants to commit his long-term future to Manchester United, but only if a suitable offer is put on the table.

There has been continued uncertainty regarding the Spaniard’s future, but he is keen to thrash out fresh terms at Old Trafford.

However, the goalkeeper will command a significant improvement on his current £200,000-a-week contract if he is to put pen-to-paper on a new deal.

De Gea will expect a package in excess of £300,000, including bonuses, according to the Mail.

Discussions with De Gea’s camp have been ongoing for some time, but to date no agreement has been made.

United activated a 12-month extension in De Gea’s contract back in November, keeping the Spaniard at the club until 2020.

The clause also prevented interested clubs from talking to De Gea this month ahead of a potential free transfer.

De Gea put in a world-class display in United’s superb 1-0 win at Tottenham – their sixth in a row since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has taken charge on an interim basis.

Several first-team players ran over to De Gea to congratulate him after his display on Sunday at Wembley, and they are desperate for him to remain No 1 for many years to come.

Midfielder Jesse Lingard echoed those views, saying: “We want him to stay.

“He’s one of the best keepers in the world, if not the best.”

United entertain Brighton on Saturday in the Premier League, before a huge trip to Arsenal in the FA Cup fourth round on January 25.
