Thousands of empty seats could be seen at Manchester City’s Carabao Cup semi-final first leg clash with Burton at the Etihad.
A serious incident on the M6 motorway prevented a number of fans from getting to the stadium.
There was talk of the kick-off being delayed because of the problems but the match went ahead as scheduled.
Hundreds of Burton Albion fans were stuck in the chaos and took to social media to vent their frustrations.
Around 3,000 supporters had tickets for the game and 34 coaches were on their way to the ground.
However, with an hour to go before kick-off there was only one that had arrived.
The M6 problems were not the sole reason for Man City’s empty seats however, as the fixture was already expected to produce their smallest crowd of the season.
This is their third of four home games on the bounce after a hectic Christmas schedule.
On Tuesday, in the other semi-final, 44,371 made the journey to Wembley to see Spurs’ 1-0 victory over Chelsea.
That was technically a sell-out – despite Wembley’s 90,000 capacity – due to the top tier not being opened for the game.
The empty seats have drawn comments from a number of people on social media and you can read a round-up below.
