We need to talk about Jose Mourinho
What’s up with him? Smashing water bottles after winning 1-0 at home against the mighty Young Boys. How far has he fallen?
On the other hand he has no idea tactically, how to mould this set of players into any kind of system.
No joy, no life in that team.

Fellaini > Lukaku
How bad is it when Fellaini does Lukaku’s job better than Lukaku?…
Ben (Least we’ve got Leeds in Australia) Gleeson
…So the only away we could score our only European goal at home so far this season was against Young Boys in the very last minute of the game and it required a long hopeful ball in from Shaw, a flick on from Lukaku and a hit and hope shot from Fellaini. Oh the Irony.
Bravo boys Bravo, it is going to be a long season…also Jose, figure out your best XI for goodness sake, been at the club long enough to figure that one out…

Looking at that Man United side
I’ve just finished watching the Utd v Young Boys game and I feel like I have more questions then answers.. how is that possible?
Going through the main players, Valencia was awful! I’ve never been his biggest fan and tonight showed exactly why! Poor defensively and offered nothing in attack!
Jones actually did okay tonight and looks our best defender based on tonight’s performance only.
Smalling did okay but looks so rushed and panic all the time!
Shaw looks terrified to attack! He was always in attacking positions but as soon as the ball came to him he played a simple pass! Why the hell does he not attack the full back?
Fellaini was pretty awful apart from the goal, he is a useful weapon but nothing more.
Fred has probably his best game for us but that isn’t saying too much! At least he tried!
Matic wtf?!! Seriously how is he playing every minute! I genuinely think it might be him harming the entire team! His form is absolutely god awful and he offers absolutely nothing defensively or in attack anymore!
Martial looks back to his worst, no confidence and constantly gave the ball away
Lingard continued his wretched run of form and should be nowhere near the first team atm!
Rashford missed a sitter, slashed at everything else and looks every bit the frustrated kid low on confidence trying to find his way.
The subs were just terrible too, they aren’t even worth commenting on as they were so lacklustre!
As the game ticked over to 80 minutes I was sitting there waiting for the urgency to appear.. it did not! Pogba strolled around passing left and right, then they passed backwards.. come on guys your at home playing a sub standard team with a chance to qualify for the knockout stages!
I personally lay the blame at the feet of both the players and the manager!
Mourinho is obviously not getting his ideas across and instead of motivating the players he is scaring the life out of them! So many of them are terrified of losing the ball that they instead play it safe! This will never yield positive results and only causes the fan base to revolt!
The players need to be stronger, they all look so frail! I was so convinced Young Boys would score and Utd would crumble like they did against Seville!
I do think it’s time to cut ties with Mourinho, if I performed as badly as him in my job, I would be sacked, so get to it Utd! But I also think Utd need an overhaul massively!
The deadwood needs removing (Young, Valencia, Rojo, Smalling (so limited), Jones (so injured), Darmian, Matic, Sanchez, Mata and even Pogba who whilst great is a bloody trouble maker) and young players need to be promoted (fosu mensah, cheit) along with some good players purchased (some steel in midfield and defence along with a pivot, a right f#@king winger and right back and forward).
There are some great young players at Utd who need to be nurtured but at this rate none of them will ever hit their potential due to other factors!

…Another diabolical 90 minutes, saved by another late goal. This pattern could conceivably go on forever, couldn’t it? And that thought is more depressing than the actual game itself.

Newcastle result was significant
I think Alex has a good overall point about United. However I feel like some clarification was needed about the Newcastle result.
The Newcastle result wasn’t significant because United won, it was significant because of the way it was won and the horrendous state of the team a few weeks before.
Everyone thought that the team has stopped playing for the manager, that Mourinho couldn’t inspire them to make a comeback form a perilious position or that he’s completely lost the dressing room. This is not to say that Mourinho’s relationship with the team is all roses, but it showed that he could inspire the then to comeback from a desperate pit especially considering how poor United were in the first ten minutes of that game and the few weeks prior. It extended the life of Mourinho’s job and you can see it from his face that was how significant it was.
Not trying to say Mourinho redeemed himself or anything as United got themselves into that situation in the first place but it showed a spark of life that the team are not dead – and they really really looked more or less dead in the last few weeks before. Contradictory as it is from a performance perspective, a thrilling 3-2 attacking second half comeback from 2-0 down will always give a far higher morale boost to players and fans more than a boring safe 1-0 win would ever do and despite it being against a very very underperforming team itself, it was at such a low point in morale that it didn’t seem to matter.
So while I agree with Alex that United is expected and should win games as average teams do, the manner of the Newcastle win is arguably as important (if not more) as the result. It carried a momentum well into the Chelsea game as well (which United arguably outplayed Chelsea despite the draw) and a few games after that including being able to survive an in-form Juventus onslaught for 90 minutes while luckily snatching a win at the end.

Keep changing like Chelsea, United…
A lot has been said in the mailbox about who or what the problem is at Utd and a lot has been said about the board, Woodward, Glazers and/or Mourinho being the problem. My take is that the club lacking a discernible plan or direction isn’t the problem just look at Chelsea. Plaything for an oligarch who just chops and changes things whenever he feels like it and yet a cup or the tittle every other season .Who do we credit for it? Abramovich? Board? Luck? for me it’s all about the managers. Man U just need to keep changing managers until they get the right one. Maybe this time they should try to go the PFM way Pardew anyone?

Same city, worlds apart
One was an enthralling game with attack and counter attack with one Manchester team coming from behind twice to level..
The other was an utterly abysmal performance in a stadium that looked (ahem) far from capacity by the time the game was won courtesy of a (literally) last minute back-of-the-right-knuckle handball from Sideshow Bob.
Result?
1. City are through having demonstrated some real grit and determination. Better than that though is:
2. Mourinho keeps his job for another couple of months at least. Hooray!
