Leeds United transfer news: Bristol City winger Callum O’Dowda reportedly a target for Marcelo Bielsa

Leeds United are reportedly interested in signing Bristol City winger Callum O’Dowda, according to reports.

O’Dowda, the Republic of Ireland international, has scored two goals for the Robins this season, creating a further four as Lee Johnson’s side fight to finish in the play-off places.

Despite starting less than half of City’s league matches this term, O’Dowda is considered an important member of Johnson’s squad and has a contract at Ashton Gate running until summer 2020.

Johnson has previously admitted he wants to tie O’Dowda down to a longer deal, but Leeds may test City’s resolve this month by moving for the winger.

According to Sky Sports, the Elland Road club are ‘looking into a deal’ for O’Dowda as Marcelo Bielsa wishes to bring in a new wide player before the close of the January transfer window.

Dan James, the Swansea and Wales player, is reportedly Leeds‘ first choice target, but a deal for O’Dowda is being considered should James remain at the Liberty Stadium.

O’Dowda, 23, began his career at Oxford United before joining Bristol City in July 2016.

He’s gone on to make 91 appearances for the Robins, and has also been capped 15 times by the Republic of Ireland, appearing in World Cup qualifiers as well as Nations League fixtures.
