Leeds United 2-0 Derby County: Marcelo Bielsa’s men move five points clear at the top of the Championship with controversial Elland Road victory

Leeds United cemented their position at the top of the Championship with a 2-0 win at Elland Road against Derby County.

On a day filled with controversy, Marcelo Bielsa shocked fans and pundits alike by admitting he DID send a scout to watch the Rams train before the Friday night clash.

The theme of scandal carried into the game itself as the home side felt aggrieved they were not awarded a penalty inside the opening 32 seconds as Andre Wisdom bundled Ezgjan Alioski over in the box – only for offside to be given.

Leeds took the lead after 20 minutes of their SkyBet Championship clash with Derby at Elland Road.

Jack Clarke’s low ball into the near post was turned in by Kemar Roofe.

Bielsa’s side had deserved the lead and Clarke threatened to double the lead, firing just wide of the near post.

The lead was doubled shortly after the break when the starlet again rampaged down the right hand side, with his cross forcing Scott Carson into an early save.

The rebound fell kindly to Alioski, who crossed to Jack Harrison for a simple finish to end the game as a contest.

Star Man – Jack Clarke

The 18-year-old was electric on the right-hand side and looked like a seasoned veteran.

Direct and keen to take on his man at every given opportunity, the winger had a hand in both of Leeds’ goals and full justified Marcelo Bielsa’s decision to give him his first league start.

Moment of the game

The second goal sucked the life out of Derby and effectively killed the game as a contest.

It was Clarke again who received the ball on the right and took on his man. After a shimmy, he somehow managed to squeeze in a cross which caught Carson in the Rams’ goal off guard.

The former England international could only tip the ball into the path of left-back Alioski for Harison to score. At such an early stage in the second half, Lampard’s game plan went completely out of the window.
