Former Premier League midfielder Dietmar Hamann has given a bleak prediction for Tottenham in the wake of Harry Kane’s injury, claiming he can see Spurs “nosediving” in the striker’s absence.

Kane has been ruled out until March after damaging ligaments in his ankle right at the end of the 1-0 defeat to Manchester United last weekend.

What games will Harry Kane miss?

It’s a massive blow for Spurs, especially because forward Heung-min Son is with South Korea for the 2019 Asian Cup, meaning they will have to rely on inconsistent striker Fernando Llorente for the next few games.

Mauricio Pocehttino’s men have been linked with a move for free agent Giuseppe Rossi, but the Italian is unlikely to replicate the same form as Kane, who is regarded by some as the best striker in world football.

And former midfielder Hamann, who played in the Premier League for eleven years at Newcastle, Liverpool, Manchester City and Bolton, claimed Kane’s injury could lead to Spurs falling down the Premier League table.

Hamann said: “I can see them [Spurs] nosediving.

“Everything about the way Tottenham play is based around supplying Harry Kane and 33-year-old Fernando Llorente is a poor alternative.

“A man who has scored at least 21 goals in each of the last four seasons is pretty much impossible to replace.

“Given the quality of the clubs at the top of the Premier League it won’t take too many poor results for a team to backpedal and that has to be the fear for Spurs.”

Didi Hamann was speaking to RacingPost.com.
