Rio Ferdinand could not resist the urge to troll Jurgen Klopp following Liverpool’s surprise 2-0 defeat to Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League.
A 2-0 defeat in Belgrade against Red Star made it three successive away Champions League losses and put their qualification from Group C in the balance.
Klopp admits he faces a battle to cure Liverpool of their away sickness after listing a number of ways in which they were second best to the Serbians on Tuesday evening.
The defeat also means Liverpool now have just three wins from their last nine matches, with many of their early season optimism appearing to get sucked away as our readers dissected a thoroughly-disjointed display by the Reds.
And while Klopp has turned Liverpool into genuine title contenders this season, an alarming statistic emerged on the back on Tuesday’s defeat showing the German to have the lowest win percentage of some of his other big-name rivals in the Premier League.
Via his Instagram page, former United defender Ferdinand could not resist aiming a subtle dig at Klopp, with the Liverpool boss now sitting below Pep Guardiola, Mauricio Pochettino, Antonio Conte, Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho in the win percentage table since 2014.
Klopp’s record now stands at 64 wins from his last 117 matches in charge – making his win percentage just 54.7% – less than that of his rivals. Ferdinand accompanied the photo with a caption of ‘Klopp’ followed by the ‘eyes’ emoji.
And Ferdinand, who turned 40 on Wednesday, wasn’t the only one to launch a dig at Klopp, with former stars Steve McManaman and Michael Owen both laying into Liverpool’s display in Serbia, as £57m man Alisson Becker also came in for heavy criticism.
