Emery ‘very happy’ with loanee when quizzed over early recall

Unai Emery says that Arsenal are “very happy with” Reiss Nelson‘s performances on loan at Hoffenheim.

Arsenal sent Nelson out on loan to the Bundesliga in the summer, with Emery eager for the player “to take minutes”.

Nelson has certainly done that in Germany, scoring five goals and assisting one in six league games.

The 18-year-old has also featured in the Champions League, and will return to Arsenal at the end of his loan as a much-improved player. He has been bloody brilliant.

Emery refused to confirm whether Arsenal are looking into recalling the teenager from his deal early, but did say that the club are delighted with his development.

“At the moment we don’t speak about that,” he said.

“With Reiss, we are very happy with him at the moment. We follow him every match.

“We are thinking how he can help us in the future.

“He can take responsibility, minutes and confidence in a team where he can play more. Then the objective is to come back with us and grow with this experience.

“My experience in Spain and France is that with this loan the player can take this.”
