The trial of Neymar’s transfer to Barcelona begins on Monday

Paris Saint-Germain attacker Neymar is told to appear in person on the first day of the trial related to his controversial transfer to Barcelona in 2013.

A report from L’Équipe claims that the trial begins on Monday and could run until October 31. The Spanish court will look into the accusations against the Brazilian carrying out irregularities during his transfer from Santos.

According to the complainant company DIS fund (the holder of 40 per cent of the player’s rights at the time), the transfer was undervalued at €57.1 million (where the family of the player got €40 million and left the company aggrieved), making the 30-year-old a prime suspect in a scam case. On the other hand, the Brazilian justice claims that Barcelona had to shell out €83 million to secure the services of the player.

As per the report, the prosecution requires two years in prison with a fine of €10 million against the former Barcelona man.

Former Barcelona president Sandro Rosell faces a five-year sentence for the mismanagement of financial regularities. Josep Maria Bartomeu, who became the Barça president after Rosell between 2014 and 2020, will testify before the law on October 21 along with Rosell, Neymar, and his parents.
