DES MOINES, Iowa — The Minnesota State wrestling team dropped all three of its matches at the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals Saturday, as it fell to #4 Newberry College 31-6, #8 Indianapolis 30-12 and Findlay 31-19, falling to 2-4 overall (2-0 NSIC).
Adam Cooling (Fr., 157 lbs.) was the only grappler to win all three of his matches. Cooling got it started with a 4-3 decision win over familiar foe, Kayne Melko, who got the best of Cooling, 4-3, three days earlier in the Mavericks’ dual with the Wolves. Cooling’s next victory came against Sheldon Struble of Indianapolis, earning a 3-1 double overtime win. Cooling didn’t surrender a point in his final match of the tournament, downing Jordan Cowell of Findlay 4-0.

Alphonso Vruno (So., 141 lbs.) registered two wins and a loss on the day. Vruno started the duals off with a 3-2 loss to B.J. Young of Newberry. Vruno then registered a fall and a major against Andrew Frey of Indianapolis and Nicholas Skonieczyn of Findlay, respectively.
Corby Running (Sr., 285 lbs.), Scott VanDeLoo (So., 184 lbs.), Brendan Eichmann (Sr. 184 lbs.), andDarick Vancura (Fr., 174 lbs.) all finished with a win on the day.

The Mavericks return to conference action as they host Minnesota State-Moorhead Thursday at 7 p.m. in Taylor Center.
